guide to mirc

If you're using a standalone IRC client such as mIRC to connect to chat rooms on nevernet, it's easy to integrate your profile. By doing so, you allow other users to learn more about you, whether they are joining from the website or through another standalone IRC client.

Remember, the amount of information that you choose to put on your profile is up to you, but we recommend that everyone have at least basic information available. If you don't update your IRC client to allow other users to view your profile, they will receive errors when they try to view it.

Allowing other users to view your profile

  1. If you have not already done so, create a profile
  2. From mIRC, type /disconnect into the chat input box
  3. Click the Options Options toolbar button, or select Options from the Tools menu
  4. Copy and paste the link below into the Full Name field:
oops: please log in or create a profile first
  5. Click Connect To Server to save the changes and rejoin the chat

Viewing user profiles with whois

Users joining the chat from the website can right click a person on the list and click 'user profile' to view the other person's profile. From mIRC, you can gain similar functionality through the whois command.

To view a profile, type /whois nickname and click the link that appears in the information. A typical whois response is shown below.
